Capable of bringing together the right people, from city officials and departments to local area businesses, as well as available incentive packages, the Michigan City Economic Development Corporation is your one-stop shop for establishing your business here. In 1999, the Michigan City Economic Development Corporation brought initial business investments to the city totaling $45 million, an increase of 400% in two years.

The Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce is a business organization serving its members and the Michigan City community to promote economic and community development. Active with local business and civic leaders, it promotes business growth through building relationships, promoting members, and member activities.

U. S. Small Business Administration certified to administer SBA 504 loan program, including low-interest fixed rate loans with terms of 10 or 20 years. They partner with local financial institutions to provide 90% financing to existing businesses for acquisition, renovation, or expansion of plants and equipment (50% financing provided by bank and 40% financed through the RDC at rates below that those typically offered by lending institutions). The business would be responsible for the remaining 10% of the project cost.

A privately owned company that manages a pool of risk capital provided by Indiana banks (currently 30). One of the 30 banks must be a primary lender with at least a 50% exposure. ICBCC takes a subordinate collateral position. ICBCC participates in projects that need at least $200,000 (up to $750,000) in new financing. The project funding can be used for any legitimate business purpose, including working capital.

Guarantees a portion of bank loans awarded to manufacturers, with a maximum guaranty of $2 million. Also matches loan fees to small businesses through the Capital Access Program, involving over 100 banks. This organization also issues tax-exempt bonds for up to $10 million for industrial-development projects, and offers credit enhancements to Indiana lenders to make loans to businesses.

This private, for-profit organization partners with statewide financiers to provide low-interest loans up to $1,500,000 to small businesses.

Administered by the Indiana Regional Planning Commission, this plan awards low-cost, long-term capital up to $750,000 in exchange for recipient companies creating or retaining private sector jobs.

Provided by Purdue Calumet, this 22-month entrepreneurship program for experienced businesses in all industries of at least two years combines training, consulting, mentoring, and roundtable discussions.

The Entrepreneur Center of Michigan City is a multi-client (multi-tenant) facility for new and growing small businesses that provides a supportive environment where entrepreneurs can acquire lease space at affordable rates and benefit from support services, resources, training and business advice, all in one location. The success and profitability of small enterprise depends on the assistance it receives in its early stages. The outcome for these businesses is to grow and expand beyond the Entrepreneur Center Michigan City and become local businesses that are structured for success.

Provides guidance and information regarding opportunities and trends to 24 selected entrepreneurs yearly, with emphasis on updating technology and information systems.
