Parents and Friends, Inc.

Parents and Friends Inc. has served adults with developmental disabilities since 1976. We expanded in 2000 to support the elderly through the County Council on Aging.

We have four group homes in Michigan City and La Porte, Indiana with training focused on daily living skills, socialization, human awareness and recreation. We assist residents integrating into the community, offering behavioral and medical managment.

We provide transportation for medical appointments and escort services for the frail. Guardianship is extended for the developmentally disabled, mentally ill or incapacitated adults at risk due to abuse, neglect or lack of advocates.

Our Butterfly Real Estate provides affordable housing for individuals with and without disabilites and are AMI or income based. If needed, our community living support services program, available 24 hours a day, teaches how to live with others or alone in an apartment or home setting.

Melissa Peiffer offers counseling serves to those living in Michigan City, LaPorte and Valparaiso. Melissa works with individuals who are dealing with life issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, and etc. She works with both adults and adolescents. The PUPPET PARLOR THEATRE is a 100 seat professional marionette puppet theatre, entertaining both children and adult audiences.Marionettes move across the stage presenting literacy based fairy tales and stories with moral lessons. Shows are performed on a large 12 ft. wide and 14ft. deep stage. The performances include a full marionette cast, lively music, colorful sets and drops and attractive lighting.

A small store, at the entrance of the theatre, sells puppets, marionettes, books, prints and posters. Puppetmaking classes are available.
