SPECIAL NOTICE:
Due to the current Lake Avenue street closure, normal city bus service to the Lake Hills area will be suspended. This will not affect service to Washington Park or the Senior Center. Lake Hills residents needing service should contact the Michigan City Transit Department at 219-873-1502. This change will be in effect until further notice as there is no published expectation of the completion of work on Lake Ave.

Thank you for visiting us at the Michigan City Webpage.  This webpage is designed to serve as a resource for understanding the overall system.  As the leader of MCT, it is my duty to provide a safe, modern, reliable and convenient public transportation system that is essential to the success of our city.  All of my efforts serve to support one goal – to provide an innovative, reliable transportation service that reduces dependency on the automobile and maximizes ridership.

About Our Service

Michigan City Transit service includes bus transportation along 4 fixed routes for use by the general public.  MCT buses are accessible for individuals with disabilities.  Buses are equipped with lifts/ramps for easy boarding.  MCT also offers an ADA Paratransit service called “Dial-a-Ride” to service individuals with disabilities who are unable to ride accessible fixed-route service because of their disability.

MCT is dedicated to providing viable transportation services that are essential to the growth and economic development of the city and the public’s mobility needs.

MCT does not operate on Sundays or the below listed Holidays:

How to Ride

MCT buses will stop at any designated stops along the route or any major intersection along the route as long as it is safe to do so, no stops on Franklin Street will be made other than those designated as a stop.  Be sure to be visible to the operator as the bus approaches, clearly signal to the operator that you wish to board.  As a courtesy, take a moment to see if anyone is disembarking.  Please be careful boarding and watch your step.  Please take your seat immediately after boarding.  You must store your bags, packages, carts, strollers etc. in your lap or under your seat.  You will only be allowed to board with the amount of personal property you are able to carry boarding one time.  Do not block aisles and doorways.  To exit the bus signal the operator by pulling the cord as you approach your stop.  Please remain seated until the bus comes to a stop and watch your step as you get off the bus.  Stand back and wait for the bus to leave the stop.  NEVER CROSS IN FRONT OF A BUS.  MCT wants to ensure the safety of all its passengers, operators and the general public.  Our operators do their best to follow the posted schedules in order for you to arrive at your destination safely and on time.  However, on occasions things will cause delays. Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

MCT welcomes your comments, suggestions or complaints.  We are committed to using passenger feedback as a tool to improve our service quality.  If you experience dissatisfaction with service, and wish to file a complaint, you can call our office and our staff will take a verbal complaint. Complaint forms are also available on any MCT vehicle and on this webpage.  If you need assistance with completing the form please call the office.  We would also like to hear your compliments on our professional operators or suggestions or how to improve our system or service.
