City Departments - Human Rights Department - Michigan City Resident Local Hiring Program
Ordinance No. 3283 | Feedback | Forms | Useful Links

Dear Michigan City Resident,

The City of Michigan City has a diverse and talented community of skilled workers, craft persons and laborers who are qualified to work in the construction industry.  Therefore, Ordinance #4317 was passed as an amendment to Ordinance #3974, also known as the “Michigan City Local Hiring Program.”  The program was created to encourage the hiring of local residents.

Each contractor who works on a municipal construction project for which more than $ 150,000.00 is spent agrees to meet the Resident Hiring Quota of 50% of the total hourly wages paid for the construction project at the construction site. The Michigan City Human Rights Department works to maintain a list of residents who have expressed interest in working on construction projects along with their skill sets. The list is available to the contractor as a resource to find available local workforce.

This Department has worked with WorkOne and you must have completed the Workkeys testing before your name is put on the Hiring Registry List. If you have your completed Test Scores, please bring in a copy of your results and fill out a form at the Michigan City Human Rights Department, City Hall, 100 East Michigan Blvd., Michigan City, IN 46360.

You must have a copy of your Workkeys test.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact the department.
