Washington Park Only: Open 5 a.m. Close 12 a.m. You must exit Washington Park by midnight. Police or park staff may close park and lock gates at any time if deemed necessary.
The following rules apply to all Michigan City Park Department properties.
- PARKS OPEN AT 5:00 A.M. AND PARKS CLOSE AT 11:00 P.M. YOU MUST EXIT PARKS BY 11:00 P.M.
- SPEED LIMIT 5 M.P.H.
- GLASS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED
- NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WITHIN 50 FT. OF ROADWAYS OR PARKING LOTS
- NO PETS OUTSIDE OF VEHICLES
- NO OVERNIGHT PARKING OR CAMPING
- NO LITTERING
- NO GROUND FIRES. GRILLS PERMITTED IN DESIGNATED AREAS ONLY, AND ONLY NON-CHARCOAL (BUTANE) PORTABLE GRILLS ARE ALLOWED ON BEACH.
- HUNTING IS PROHIBITED ON ALL PARK PROPERTY
- PICNIC SHELTERS AND PARKING PASSES AVAILABLE AT PARK OFFICE 219/873-1506
- NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED PARKING AREAS
- NO METAL DETECTORS ON GRASS
- NOISE ORDINANCE ENFORCED
- NO SKATEBOARDING EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED AREAS

- Park is open from 7:00AM until 10:00PM. Winter hours vary based upon weather conditions.
- Skateboard and inline skaters are invited to skate Monday, Wednesday, and Friday all day; Saturday and Sunday from 11:00AM until 10:00PM. Bikes are invited Tuesday and Thursday all day and Saturday and Sunday 7:00AM until 11:00AM.
- If no bikes are present during posted times, skaters may use facility. If no skaters are present during posted times, bikes may use facility.
- Winter hours based on weather conditions.
- INLINE SKATING, SKATEBOARDING AND BIKING ARE HIGH RISK ACTIVITIES WITH INHERENT RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY. Skate and ride ONLY within your abilities; maintain control of yourself and equipment.
- THE SKATE PARK AREA IS UNSUPERVISED AND PARTICIPANTS AND ALL OTHER PERSONS ARE VOLUNTARILY PARTICIPATING AND ENTERING AT THEIR OWN RISK. PARENTS ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CHILDREN.
- SKATE PARKS ARE PRONE TO FLYING OBJECTS AND BODIES. KNOW YOUR ABILITIES AND SKATE OR BIKE WITHIN THEM. NEITHER THE CITY OF MICHIGAN CITY NOR ITS PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES.

- THE SKATE PARK SURFACE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN WET. DO NOT USE SKATE PARK IF WET OR IF ICE IS PRESENT.

Skate Park Rules
- IN CASE OF EMERGENCY CALL 911. Michigan City Police Non-Emergency number is 874-3221.
- All skateboarders, inline skaters, and bikers are strongly encouraged and advised to wear proper helmets, kneepads and elbow pads (ANSI or Snell approved).
- Skaters & Bikers are responsible for inspecting equipment and surface prior to use to be sure that it has not been vandalized and is safe for skating and biking. Contact the Park Department at 873-1506 if equipment or surface is damaged.
- Children age 10 and under must be accompanied and supervised by a competent parent or adult.
- Please be courteous of other skaters and bikers.
- Spectators must remain outside of fenced area and be cautious of flying objects. (Adult parents/supervisors of children 10 and under must be cautious and enter the facility at own risk.)
- Only non-motorized skateboards, inline skates and non-motorized bikes may be used at the skate park. All equipment must be in good condition and free of dirt. No personally owned ramps, rails, boxes or other such devices may be brought into the facility.
- Modifications to the facility and the use of wax or accelerants are prohibited.
- No “snaking” – wait your turn. No skating against traffic on ramps or pipes.
- NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS ALLOWED. Offensive language, rowdy behavior and/or reckless behavior will not be tolerated. Shirts and shoes should be worn at all times.
- Graffiti and destruction of public property is prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted. Graffiti Board provided – PLEASE USE.
- NO GLASS CONTAINERS OF ANY KIND ALLOWED. Food, drinks AND SMOKING are prohibited in the skate park area and allowed only in the designated areas. PLEASE KEEP YOUR PARK CLEAN!
- No pets of any kind allowed in the park anywhere.
- Any scheduled event or contest must be approved by M.C. Parks Department.
- Violation of these rules may result in suspension, expulsion or criminal prosecution.
- Neither the City of Michigan City nor the Department of Parks & Recreation are responsible for loss, theft or destruction of any personal property and, along with the M.C. Police Department, reserves the right to close the skate park at any time for any reason.
- Parking in designated areas only.

- Patrons will comply with all rules and lifeguard instructions or be subject to removal or arrest
- White flag signifies safe lake conditions - swimming allowed
- Red flag signifies unsafe lake conditions - swimming prohibited
- All children 12 years of age or younger must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or adult guardian
- No alcoholic beverages within 50 feet of roadways or parking areas
- Absolutely no glass containers
- No watercraft, loading/unloading of passengers in or beyond designated swim area
- The use of inflatable objects may be restricted
- No activities allowed which present danger or risk to beach patrons
- No unauthorized vehicles on beach
- No animals or pets allowed
- No overnight parking or camping
- No fires allowed - grills permitted in designated areas only
- No littering - please use proper refuse receptacles
- Curfew is 11:00 p.m. daily
- Picnic shelters available through reservations and park office 873-1506
- No motorized vehicles except in designated parking areas
- No metal detectors on grass
- Noise ordinance enforced
- No skateboards except in designated areas
- Read and obey all signs
- Only swim at beaches protected by a lifeguard - never swim alone
- Check with lifeguards for dangerous conditions
- Rip Currents can kill - learn what to do if you get caught in one
- Do not overestimate your swimming abilities or take changes in rough waters
- Alcohol and swimming do not mix - please swim sober
- Never leave a child alone in Washington Park or on the beach
- Always utilize sunscreen and eye protection
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Please advise lifeguards of any medical conditions that may affect your visit to the beach
