Adams Park

307 Village Road - 12 acres located in the Southgate neighborhood.

Amenities: 2 fenced and lighted ball diamonds, asphalt parking lot, playground equipment, basketball court, picnic shelter, and off street parking.

Canada Park

300 Center Street - 1 acre located in the Canada and Sheridan Beach neighborhoods.

Amenities: Multi-use play set and off street parking.

Cleveland Park

300 Cleveland Avenue - 6 acres located in the Eastport neighborhood, behind the Michigan City Police Department.

Amenities: Playground equipment, walking trail, basketball court and winter sledding hill.  Owned and maintained by the Michigan City Police Department.

Gardena Park

900 Gardena Street - 12 acres located in the Greenwood neighborhood.

Amenities: a recently renovated ADA accessible playground, 2 ball diamonds, full basketball court, 3 picnic shelters, drinking fountain, half mile asphalt walking trail, indoor restrooms  (open seasonally), and off street parking.

Hansen Park

100 E Street - 17.5 acres located in the Canada neighborhood.

Amenities: Small spring fed pond with observation deck, ADA accessible playground equipment, 2 fishing pads, picnic shelter, basketball court, walking trail, canoe/kayak launch, and off street parking.

Joe Hawkins Memorial Park

1501 W. 8th Street - 1 acre located in the northwest section of the city.

Amenities: ADA accessible playground, bike rack and picnic shelter.

This park was formally known as the “8th Street Tot Lot.” On April 5, 2007 the Park Board re-named the park “Joe Hawkins Memorial Park” to honor the community activist who spent his life improving the lives of others. A limestone pillar supporting a bronze plaque of Mr. Hawkins was installed at the entrance to the park and a dedication ceremony for family and friends was held on June 16, 2007.

Karwick Nature Park

700 S. Karwick Road - 23.5 acres located on the east side of the city.

Amenities: Public fishing site on Trail Creek, walking trails, observation areas, pedestrian bridge over the Trail Creek. and off street parking.

Krueger Memorial Park & Hall

801 Liberty Trail - 37 acres located in the Krueger neighborhood.

Amenities: Nature trails, basketball court, rental hall and off street parking

Named in honor of Spanish-American War veterans, this park provides adequate open space for unorganized play, and tree shaded picnic grounds on a rolling terrain. The park is also home to Krueger Memorial Hall, a two story log structure built from trees that were cut from the site using W.P.A. funds during the Great Depression which offers two fireplaces, kitchen, bar, and restrooms. The hall hosts gatherings ranging from family reunions, weddings, meetings, showers, and classes.

Oak Hills Park

716 Martin Luther King Drive - 5 acres located in the extreme northeast section of Michigan City.

Amenities: Ball diamond, basketball court, picnic shelter, drinking fountain, playground equipment, and off street parking.

This attractive park features tree shaded areas and plenty of open space.  It is located across the street from the Martin Luther King Youth Center.

Pullman Park

550 West 4th Street - 10 acres located in northwest section of Michigan City.

Amenities: 2 lighted and professionally surfaced basketball courts, ADA accessible playground equipment, drinking fountains, 3 picnic shelters, benches, bike rack, year round restrooms, skate park, and off street parking.

Pullman Park serves as a neighborhood park for the City’s extreme northwest community and is a popular site for family reunions, church picnics and other neighborhood gatherings. It also serves as a community park drawing people from all over the City to play on the professionally surfaced basketball courts. This park also serves as a regional attraction with the addition of the Michigan City Skate Park in 2005. During the fall of 2006 seventy trees representing ten species were planted in Pullman Park.

The Michigan City Skate Park was constructed in 2005. This premier park features the finest equipment available for skating and biking enthusiasts. It is one of the largest skate parks in the entire Midwest measuring in at 22,000 square feet with over 35 different ramps and rails.

Ridgeland Park

620 Ridgeland Avenue - 1 acre located in northeast section of Michigan City.

Amenities: Playground equipment, basketball court, benches, bike rack, and picnic shelter.


Ruby Woods

3535 Franklin Street - 35 acres centrally located in Michigan City

Amenities: Walking trails

Located directly behind Al's Supermarket on Franklin Street.  Ruby Woods rules are specific to preserving this nature park. 

Striebel Pond

Striebel Pond, located at the corner of Earl Road and 1100W (Hitchcock Street), on the southwest side of the city, is a flood control facility under the jurisdiction of the Michigan City Sanitary District.  The park features family and dog-friendly outdoor recreational space, picnic shelters, seasonal restrooms, and a 1.5 mile walking trail for public use.  For picnic shelter reservations, please contact the Michigan City Sanitary District at (219) 874-7799.

Tall Timbers Park

3100 Springland Avenue - 30 acres located in the Lakeland neighborhood.

Amenities: Walking trails, ADA accessible playground, park benches, bike rack, and basketball court.

The majority of Tall Timbers' 30 acres serves as a nature preserve. Several trails wind through the wooded area of the park.

Walker Street Park

900 Walker Street - 1 acre centrally located in Michigan City.

Amenities: ADA accessible playground, basketball court, picnic shelter, drinking fountain, mounted picnic tables, benches, and bike rack.

A community garden was added to Walker Street Park in 2018.  

Water Tower Park

301 Broadway Street - 5.3 acres located in the northeast section of Michigan City

Amenities: Two ball diamonds, one basketball court, a shaded picnic area with drinking fountain and playground equipment. This park does not have on-site parking.

Charles R. Westcott Park

US 12 & East Michigan Boulevard - 3 acres located in the north section of Michigan City.

Amenities:  Beautiful gardens, gathering areas, benches, Michigan City Public Art Committee art kiosk, sculpture, handmade art tiles on seat walls, and on site parking.

Dedicated to Charles R. Westcott in memory of his leadership in the community. Mr. Westcott was a role model, mentor and longtime director of the Elite Youth Center in Michigan City.

Winding Creek Cove

8th & Dickson Streets - 6.67 located in the north central section of Michigan City.

Amenities: This passive park serves as a trail connection to the Trail Creek Greenway Trail.  The park has a paved parking lot and offers two hiking trails through the heavily wooded area. The first trail is 1,300’ long and leads to fishing access on Trail Creek.  The second trail is 450’ long and leads to an observation deck overlooking Trail Creek.

Winding Creek Cove Park serves as a green infrastructure, best management practices demonstration projects facility.  These best management practices are designed to improve the water quality and habitat in Trail Creek by reducing storm water runoff into the creek which reduces sedimentation and nutrient loading.

In 2016 we constructed a bioswale to capture storm water runoff from the parking lot, streets and nearby neighborhoods.  This project was partially funded by a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Grant.

In 2017 we removed and treated invasive species and replanted a half acre native forest consisting of 48 new trees.  This project was partially funded by a Indiana Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Grant.

In 2019 we completed two bank stabilization projects at both access points on Trail Creek.  We installed multiple stone fishing pads to prevent erosion and constructed a natural stone kayak/canoe launch.  Funding for these projects was provided in part by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake Michigan Coastal Program.
