Landlords & Tenants

The Michigan City Fire Department is landlord-friendly!
We are here to help.

The first priority of the MCFD is prevention. We always prefer to stop a fire or emergency before it happens. Let us help you operate your rental units in the most safe, compliant and efficient way possible. Give us a call, our Fire Marshal and Public Information Officer are always happy to help landlords and tenants with questions or concerns.

ARTICLE IX. - HOUSING CODE of the City of Michigan City Code of Ordinances pertains to the required maintenance and upkeep of all residences and dwellings within the city limits.

In partnership with the Planning & Inspection Department, the Michigan City Fire Department and the Fire Marshal, work diligently to ensure all residences operated as rental properties within the city limits are safe and in compliance with all federal, state and local law.

Should you have any questions or concerns about your rental property, please contact the Fire Marshal
