[ARCHIVED] Traffic Stop of Stole Vehicle Leads to Drug Arrests

On Tuesday November 28, 2017 at approximately 3:00 AM Long Beach Police Deputy Jason Yagelski was on patrol in the 2100 Block of Lake Shore Drive when he clocked a vehicle traveling at 52 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone.

Deputy Yagelski pursued the traffic violator to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle a, 2013 Black Toyota Prius. Deputy Yagelski performed a traffic stop on the vehicle, which came to a stop near the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Goldengate Drive. A records check of the affixed license plate was conducted which indicated the vehicle to be listed as stolen out of Mishawaka, Indiana.

The male driver was identified as Robert E. Nelson of South Bend, and the female passenger was identified as Karessa A. Warner of Mishawaka.

A search of the vehicle was conducted in which three (3) plastic bags totaling 32 grams of methamphetamine, 42.4 grams of morphine, one (1) plastic “dime” bag containing heroin, several hypodermic syringes, one plastic “dime” bag containing marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were recovered from inside the vehicle.

Robert Nelson and Karessa Warner were both taken into custody without incident and then transported to the La Porte County Jail for processing.

At this time, Robert Nelson is charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (Level 6 Felony) and Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe (Level 6 Felony).

Karessa Warner is charged with Possession With the Intent to Distribute (Level 2 Felony), Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Level 3 Felony) Possession of Heroin (Level 6 Felony), Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Marijuana (A-Misdemeanor), and Possession of Paraphernalia (C-Misdemeanor).

The Long Beach Police Department was assisted by the Trail Creek Police Department, Michigan City Police Department and the La Porte County Prosecutors Office.
