This year will be filled with special activities and fun, as the Washington Park Zoo celebrates its 90th anniversary! The Zoo has a long and rich history beginning with its inception in 1928, when the Zoo started as a miniature mammal and bird display on Michigan City’s lakefront.
The Zoo later moved to its present location on nearly 9 acres of beautiful parkland, where currently over 300 animals – representing 80 different species – reside.
To mark this significant milestone, a variety of activities will be offered to visitors to commemorate the lasting effects the Zoo has had on the community…and beyond!
Here’s a sampling of what’s coming up in 2018:
90 Days of Luck
Starting on May 27th and running until August 25th, the 90th paid or member visitor each day will be chosen by our office “Prize Patrol” to receive an exciting giveaway, such as free Safari Train tickets, a concession’s item or even special gift from the Treetop Gift Shop!
Official 90th Anniversary Party
Our main anniversary party will be held on Saturday, June 16th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., when we celebrate with special activities, sweet treats, and more for the animals and the visitors! Be sure to stay in touch for more details.
Social Media Contests
Be sure like us on Facebook to watch for contests throughout the year in which we will be awarding great prizes including special Zoo-venirs and family passes to the special events like Zoo-B-Que or Zoo Boo!
